Jack missed Vienna, in his own way. He had only been here for a week, and he was having worse home sickness then when he made the change from France to Vienna. Possible because everything here was so different. Sure, many people spoke his language, but some of the words were quite odd. For example, they said "Salut" here more than "Bonjour", and noone kissed cheeks like they did so in his country. They seemed to think it was more personal rather than the simple hello it was in his country. Also, he kept on having difficulty with this new money. Sure, being a musician counting was never a problem, but he always wanted to count in pounds, not whatever this was. And it just muddled him up, like now for example.
Here Jack was, standing in a cafe, wanting a Chai Latte, and staring at a handful of change that was quite foriegn to him. Eventually, he just thrust his hand at the cashier, and said "Knock yourself out.", or something similar to that effect, in French. The young teenage girl behind the till stared at him for a moment, and Jack found himself wondering if she was entranced by him, his wierd accent, or the fact he had just asked her to count his change for him, before shaking her head and raking her way through the change in his long musically experianced fingers. She mumbled in english about illiteracy and stupidity, he supposed hoping he didn't understand the language. Kind of naive really. He just smiled and pretended he didn't understand for the moment. When she was done counting, he popped his change back in his wallet and slid it into his back pocket.
She left for a moment, still muttering, and came back with a huge cup of Chai Latte for him, telling him to have a nice day with a smile in French. Jack nodded his head for a moment, and said quiet easily in english, "Thank you, you have a nice day yourself." and then smirked a little as her jaw dropped at him. He then gave her a wide grin and walked to a seat by the window, taking a sip of his tea and savouring the rich flavour before setting it down on the table before him. He then pulled a time table and a whole bunch of required teachings from his bag and picked through them. He made two piles: music he liked, and music he hated. After a moment, he added a third pile... meaning "?" really. He'd have to go and plunk it later. He reached around one of the scores he was reading and felt for his Chai frowning a little when he couldn't find it.
